I noticed blockiness and pixerlization in the AVI output video, what's wrong with it?

It is usually solved by highering the bitrate. Regardless of all other settings, the highering the bitrate will result in higher quality output. You can change the selected codec's bitrate by clicking on the 'Configure' button on the 'Video Codec' setting window.

When I was converting DVD's to DivX AVI file, the program crashed. What's wrong with it?

DivX version 5.2.1 is known to have some problems with certain DVD discs when used with Easy DVD Rip. Although not very common, in certain cases, this particulare version is crashing, and as a result crashing Easy DVD Rip with it. DivX version 5.1.1 and version 6.0 do not suffer from this problem and can be used when such a problem is noticed.

Also, this same version, 5.2.1 does not work under Windows 2000. The reason is not known, but the codec does not show in the standard video codecs window.

Version 6.0 for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista: http://www.divx.com/divx/codec.php

Version 5.1.1 for Windows 98/Me: http://www.subsys.ca/fichiers/Codec/DivX511.exe

From the Control Panel, double-click System, then from the Device Manager tab, under CD/DVD ROM double-click the DVD-device where your DVD is inserted. Can other software conflict with the operation of Easy DVD Rip?

- Most of the DVD decrypting programs can affect the operation of Easy DVD Rip, so please UNINSTALL any DVD decrypting programs (e.g. DVD43, AnyDVD, DVDIdle, DVD Region+CSS Free) from your computer if you installed them, then reboot your computer.

- Some packet writing software will constantly talk to your CD writer, and can cause a number of issues while our program try to burn a CD. Please disable these software if you experience problems. Well known packet writing software includes: InCD,Veritas Record Now, DLA, B's Clip, DirectCD, and InstantRead/InstantWrite.

- Some anti-virus software can cause errors while burning. If you experience problems while burning, you can disable the software temporarily by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. When the burn is complete, the software can be reactivated. Well known anti-virus software includes: McAfee virusscan and Norton AntiVirus.

The audio is Out of Sync, what's wrong with it?

In all output formats Audio and Video are synchronized based on data provided in the source DVD. In some rare cases there might be slight difference in the Audio/Video timing. This might be noticed in conversation scenes and scenes with sudden sounds, such as firing a gun or an explosion. Although most DVD's provide the exact information for perfect synchronization, some don't. Even worse is when some DVD's compensate for some delay that some set-top systems suffer from.

Since Easy DVD Rip complies with the DVD specifications, it will produce a 100% synchronized output when the source DVD provides accurate information. Nonetheless, some rare DVD's were found to report inaccurate information at some random point within the main movie. Although unnoticeable, these disks will produce output files that have a slight Audio/Video delay.

Also, if you have selected MP3 audio codec for AVI output, please select attribute with CBR (Constant Bit Rate).

How much disk space do I need to store the output files? How many CD-R's are required to burn one DVD?

The output files may have different sizes, based on the user setting and options. For VCD format, a typical CD-R (650MB) holds 74 minutes of video, where for SVCD format, a CD-R (650MB) typically holds 35 minutes of video, thus, a Hollywood standard movie (135 minutes) will take as much as 2 CD-Rs when encoded in VCD, and 4 CD-Rs when encoded in SVCD. As for AVI, most Audio and Video codecs have options to set the bitrate manually. The output can vary from a few KB/second to a few MB/second based on the Video and Audio (if available) settings.

The user is recommended to have at least 2GB (2000MB) of free space on any hard disk.

How can I make the DVD ripping result fit in a CD-R?

If the size of your CD-R is 650 MB (74 mintues), you should choose "650 MB / 74 Min" as the Split Size on Settings and Options page.

Why can't I play the burned VCD/SVCD in my VCD/SVCD player?

Sometimes this problem is caused by media incompatibility issues. If a CD does not play or work after you have burned the medium, choose another medium brand and repeat the burning process. Eventually, you may have to lower the burning speed. Many writers are not compatible with cheap or old media (blanks). The quality of some blanks is actually so bad, that the specified maximum speed cannot be reached in most cases. Find a combination of writer, disc and player that work together.

Why can't I play my CD-RW in my VCD/SVCD player?

For VCD/SVCD, you'll want to work with CD-R rather than CD-RW because you may not be able to play CD-RW discs in normal VCD/SVCD players.

How long does it take to convert a DVD movie?

Converting Audio and Video is CPU intensive. On the fastest machines, the conversion can take hours (depending on the video length, settings and the hardware). But we recommend Intel P4 or AthlonXP at 1500MHz or more. The program is compatible with AMD-64 and Intel-EMT64.

Note: The process does not require your constant attention, so you can start the process before you go to bed or while you're at work.

Some subtitles are missing, why is that?

In some very rare cases some of the subtitles might get very little on-screen time that it's hard to read them or might be skipped altogether.

After the conversion completed, why can't I rip again?

In certain cases, some DVD drives do not change back to the "Ready" state after it had processed large amounts of data (DVD). If that happens the computer needs to be restarted before you can rip again.

Sometimes I get an autorun installation window after I inserted my DVD movie, should I install it?

These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves every time you watch a movie on your computer. You are not recommended to install these viewers. They are poor quality viewers and we suggest that you use WinDVD or PowerDVD.

Why can't I use the DVD drives installed in the computer?

You may not have security rights to use the DVD drives. To give access rights to a non-administrative user, do the following:

1) Open 'Control Panel' and click on 'Administrative Tools'.

2) Double click on 'Local Security Policy'.

3) Double click on 'Security Options'.

4) Double click on 'Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on users only'.

5) Click on Enabled.

Note: DVD access is not currently possible for users with Non-Administrative rights for Windows XP Home Edition. This limitation does not apply to the Windows XP Professional Edition.

Windows hanged while burning VCD/SVCD, what's wrong with it?

Make sure that no other program that accesses CD/DVDs uses the AIN (Auto-Insert Notification) function during the burning process. If this function is activated, the burned CD may not be finalized correctly. In the worst case, the operating system will hang. We strongly suggest that you de-activate AIN:

Windows 98/ME Settings:

1) Open 'Control Panel' and click on 'System'.

2) Select 'Device Manager' tab.

3) Click on the CD-Rom icon.

4) For every CD/DVD device in the list, do the following:

Select the Device.

Select 'Settings'.

Enable 'Disconnect'.

Enable 'Sync Data Transfer'.

Disable 'Auto Insert Notification'.

Enable 'DMA' (if available).

Click on 'OK'.

5) Repeat #4 for each device.

6) Reboot the system for settings to take effect.

Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista Settings:

Windows NT4 must have Service Pack 6 installed.

Set the following registry value to disable Auto-Insert Notification using RegEdit.exe: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom/Autorun=0
